Mother's Day historically is a holiday that has both religious and secular origins. In its current day iteration, it has become a day in which to celebrate the maternal figures in a person's life, whether or not they are related by blood.

A variety of events this weekend, mostly happening Sunday, will give a chance for mothers, their children and families to come together or even give mothers a chance to have some fun apart with other mothers.

Mother's Day classes at Sawdust Studios

Sawdust Studios, 3150 Paris Road in Columbia, has two classes available Friday and Saturday where participants can make either a recipe book holder or baking board, respectively. Preregistration is needed for either class.

"Under the guidance of skilled instructors, you'll learn woodworking techniques while bonding over shared creativity. Whether you're crafting alongside your mom or crafting for her, this experience promises to be both meaningful and fun," Sawdust Studios said on event pages.
