It’s been three years since CC Sabathia threw his final pitch for the New York Yankees. But after a few years working in the media, Sabathia has found a new job in his old baseball stomping grounds.

According to MLB insider Bob Nightengale, Sabathia is joining the Major League Baseball front office. His new role will be “special assistant to Commissioner Rob Manfred.”

The reaction from baseball fans couldn’t be more mixed though. Some hope that Sabathia can organize some sort of coup to oust the unpopular Manfred from his position. Others believe that it’s simply a bad hire by Major League Baseball and that he’ll be a disaster.

There’s no shortage of takes to be found on Twitter in light of the big CC Sabathia news. Here are just some of the reactions:

CC Sabathia has 19 years of MLB playing experience under his belt, and won tons of accolades during his storied career. He made six All-Star games, won a World Series with the Yankees in 2009, two MLB wins titles, and was the 2007 AL Cy Young winner.

Sabathia was one of baseball’s most dominant pitchers between 2005 and 2012, leading the MLB in wins during that span.

His career wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows though. Sabathia had a very public battle with alcohol on top of a litany of serious health problems later in his career.

But it appears that the next stage of the 41-year-old former pitcher’s career will take him all the way to the top of the sport.
