CBS’ Matlock Reboot Recasts Major Role (No, Not That One)

There’s been some turnover at Matlock‘s new law firm.

Beau Bridges (Masters of Sex, Stargate SG-1) has stepped into the recurring role of Senior on CBS’ upcoming reboot, TVLine has confirmed. He’ll replace Jamey Sheridan, who plays Senior in the pilot episode; a reason for the recast was not given.

Bridges’ character is the managing partner of the prestigious New York law firm where Matlock is set, and he’s described as having “an indomitable presence that immediately alters the temperature of any room.” And though he loves his son, Julian (played by Parenthood‘s Jason Ritter), he might respect his daughter-in-law, Olympia (Good Sam‘s Skye P. Marshall), more.

CBS’ Matlock reboot stars Kathy Bates as Madeline “Matty” Matlock, a brilliant septuagenarian who achieved success in her younger years and decides to rejoin the work force at the aforementioned law firm, where she “uses her unassuming demeanor and wily tactics to win cases,” the logline describes. The cast also includes David Del Rio (The Baker and the Beauty) and Leah Lewis (Nancy Drew).

Matlock was initially handed a series order last May, but has since been pushed to the 2024-25 season due to last year’s concurrent WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Wayans comedy Poppa’s House was similarly bumped; go here for CBS’ current midseason lineup, which kicks off Sunday, Feb. 11, with Justin Hartley’s Tracker in the post-Super Bowl slot.
