Florida college student Miya Marcano died by ‘homicide of undetermined means’: autopsy

A coroner was unable to determine the cause of death for Miya Marcano, the Florida college student allegedly killed by her apartment complex’s maintenance worker, due to the state of decomposition.

Marcano, 19, died by “homicide of undetermined means,” according to the final autopsy report released Monday.

The Valencia College student was reported missing on Sept. 24, last seen at the Arden Villas apartments complex in Orlando. Eight days later, she was found dead, bound with black duct tape on her feet and hand and around her neck.

According to police, the complex’s handyman, 27-year-old Armando Caballero, had expressed interest in Marcano, but had been rejected.

Caballero allegedly used his master key to enter Marcano’s empty apartment, waited for her to return home, then killed her and left her body at a nearby complex.

He was found dead by apparent suicide on Sept. 27, three days after Marcano vanished.

The coroner’s report Monday said Marcano’s restraints and disposal “indicates some type of assault,” but any further investigation was hampered by advanced decomposition that “nearly completely skeletonized” her.
