Nearly one month after the passing of Forest Whitaker's former wife Keisha Whitaker, new details have come to light regarding her cause of death.

Keisha—who was previously married to the Oscar-winning actor for 20 years prior to their 2021 divorce—died on Thursday, Dec. 7, one of their daughters confirmed at the time. Keisha was 51.

According to the death certificate, obtained by TMZ, Keisha is said to have died from alcoholic liver disease, an illness she had been reportedly been battling for years before she passed.

The document, issued by Los Angeles County, also listed acute renal failure as a significant contributing factor to her death.

Even though acute renal failure can be common in those who suffer from anorexia, Keisha and Forest's daughter True previously shut down claims that her mom died from as the result of the eating disorder, despite widespread speculation from the public.

"There have been statements from STRANGERS claiming the cause of my mom's death," True, 25, wrote in an Instagram Story last month, per PEOPLE. "My mom DID NOT suffer from anorexia, although my heart goes out to those who do."

True was also the one to confirm the news of Keisha's death, sharing photos of her late mom on social media, along with the words, "goodbye mommy. I love you 4ever and beyond."

She went on to call her mom "the most beautiful woman in the world," while adding, "thank you for teaching me every single thing I know."

"I'll see you in my dreams and I'll feel you in my heart," the heartbreaking post concluded, while another image was accompanied by the message, "There's no one more important to me."

True is one of The Godfather of Harlem's four children, as he is also a dad to his and Keisha's daughter Sonnet, 27, as well as son Ocean, 33 from a previous marriage, and Keisha's daughter, Autumn, 32, from a previous relationship.
