Cathedral Prep graduate Bo Bauer signs NFL free agent deal with Washington Commanders

Cathedral Prep graduate Matthew “Bo” Bauer will get a second chance at the NFL this summer.

Bauer entered the draft last year but wasn't healthy after tearing multiple ligaments in his knee in October of 2022.

After getting a camp invitation from Seattle, Bauer, who measured 6 feet 2 inches and 235 pounds his final year at Notre Dame, didn't make the roster as he was still dealing with recovering from his knee injury. After a year of hard work and perfecting being a long snapper with several coaches, Bauer was back at Notre Dame's pro day in March.

During the pro day, Bauer ran a 40-yard dash time of 4.75 seconds and had a 34-inch vertical. He also had a 10-foot broad jump and excelled in drills as a linebacker and long snapper.

“I want this more than ever,” said Bauer after the pro day. “I’ve had a whole year just working with little results up to this point. We always say standards over circumstances. I have a high standard and I hold on to that to this day. I’ll do whatever it takes to put my best foot forward.”

The hard work isn't over for the former Notre Dame standout, who recorded 120 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss,, 2½ sacks and two interceptions. He will attend summer workouts and minicamps in hopes of making either the 53-man roster or the practice squad.
