Every rescue pet is special in their own way, but the legacies they leave after they're gone are just as precious. They leave pawprints on the hearts of those who love them, and one cat charity owner is remembering the rescue kitty who helped her start it all.

Angela is the founder of My Grandfather's Cat, a charity that helps senior citizens arrange plans for their pets in the event that they pass away before the animal does. This brings peace of mind to many senior pet owners, and it even allows older folks to adopt animals when they previously couldn't.

However, it all began with one special cat named Mackenzie. Though she crossed the rainbow bridge in April at the age of 17, her time with Angela started an unbelievable legacy. Check out Angela's heartfelt tribute from March 16.

Pass the tissues, please! It's so moving to see what the love of one cat inspired, even in the face of so much sadness. Losing a grandparent can be heartbreaking, and taking in the animal who loved them is such a beautiful way to honor their memory. Having the unconditional love of a new pet, however, can be the happiest silver lining.

Angela took wonderful care of the calico cat, too! As she posted, the rescued cat began to thrive when Angela took her to new places, like the beach, and she helped thousands of people smile through TikTok videos. Once Angela realized she had a semi-famous cat on her hands, she knew there was so much more they could do together!

The idea behind My Grandfather's Cat is simply genius, though I'm sure no one is as grateful for this organization than the senior pet owners who have needed or will need this service. So far, the nonprofit has 'helped over 175 rescue kitties find their second forever homes!'

The Benefits of Pets for Senior Citizens

Although many older folks feel hesitant about adopting a pet due to the long-term commitment, there are many reasons why having a pet could be great for them. Not only does it provide a sense of companionship to combat any loneliness, but pets also improve their owner's mental health. They are a reason to get up in the morning, and they provide a sense of fulfillment and routine.

In some cases, people can even use a massive dog for mobility assistance! This often requires training and even service dog accreditation, but it can provide a sense of safety and freedom for senior citizens.

Now that a charity like My Grandfather's Cat exists, they won't have to worry about what happens to their pet after they're gone. Thank you, Angela and Mackenzie, for your incredibly selfless work!
