CHILLICOTHE − As the tournament stretch for the spring sports season stretches into mid-May, the number of impressive performances from area athletes only continues to grow.

Tournament are the time for standout performances. When every game matters, so do the performances. Now, it's time to select your favorites from the week of May 12-18.

This week's polls will run from 6 a.m. Monday until 6 p.m. Wednesday.

To nominate a student-athlete for next week's poll, email Chillicothe Gazette sports reporter Jack Gleckler at JGleckler@gannett.com with the athlete's name along with relevant statistics or results. You can also direct message him on X, formerly known as Twitter @thejackgleckler to nominate an athlete for next week. Featured athletes are otherwise selected based on results provided from coaches.

Chillicothe Gazette Girls Athlete of the Week Poll, May 12-18

  • Unioto softball's Alexis Book went 1-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and a run in a 2-1 win over Circleville in the Division II district finals on Friday.

  • Waverly track's Paige O'Bryant placed first in long jump and second in the 100- and 200-meter dashes at the Division II district meet on Saturday.

  • Adena track's Vanessa Conley placed second in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:16.25 at the Division III district meet on Friday.

  • Zane Trace track and field's Kendra Detillion placed first in shot put and second in discus at the Division II district meet on Saturday.

Chillicothe Gazette Boys Athlete of the Week Poll, May 12-18

  • Zane Trace track's 4x400 relay team of Charley Clyne, Riley Hartsaugh, Peyton Dotson and Wyatt Vick placed first at the Divsion II district meet on Saturday.

  • Paint Valley track and field's Reid Lanham placed second in the shot put at the Division III district meet on Friday.

  • Westfall baseball's Brenden Tuttle struck out nine and gave up three hits through five innings while going 1-for-3 with a run and two stolen bases in a 5-1 win over South Point in the sectional finals on Thursday.

  • Huntington baseball's DJ Crocker went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs in a 7-6 win over Northwest in the sectional finals on Thursday.
