Carroll/Canal Winchester news: Carroll Area Historical Society receives grant

The Carroll Area Historical Society was recently awarded with a grant from the Janet S. Crist Fund of the Fairfield County Foundation for the purchase of a projector for use at meetings and public programs.

The nonprofit organization is grateful to have received the award and thanks the Crist Fund and Foundation for their support.

CW Memorial Day

In remembrance of fallen veterans, VFW Post #10523 will host Canal Winchester’s annual Memorial Day Ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 27 at Union Grove Cemetery, 400 Winchester Cemetery Road.

The ceremony will feature keynote speaker Pastor Al Swartz with David Evangelical Lutheran Church. Other ceremony participants will include Boy Scouts Troop 103, Cub Scouts Troop 103, and the Canal Winchester High School Band.

Immediately following the Canal Winchester Memorial Day Ceremony, the Scouts will host a flag retirement ceremony on the cemetery grounds. The public is invited to attend both ceremonies. Lawn chairs or blankets are encouraged for seating.

Grand opening

Johnson's Real Ice Cream held the grand opening of its newest store in Canal Winchester this week. The new shop is located in the heart of downtown Canal Winchester at 20 S. High Street.

The family-owned business first opened in 1950 in Bexley.

Yoga

Yoga classes are offered at the Canal Winchester Community Center, 45 E. Waterloo Street. Classes are held at 7 p.m. Wednesday evenings. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat if you like. Chairs are available for those who prefer to use them. The classes are for all levels from beginner to experienced. For more information call the Community Center at 614-837-8276.

Kids Night Out

The last Kids Night Out of the school year happens at 6 p.m. May 31, at Lithopolis United Methodist Church. Children ages 3 (potty trained) to 5th grade are welcome to join in for a fun-filled night of games, crafts, and more in the Multi Ministry Center. Dinner will be provided. BC graduation

Bloom-Carroll High School’s 2024’s commencement ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, May 24, in the middle school gymnasium. Doors will open for guests at 6:00 p.m. All guest seating is on a first-come-first-served basis. For more information, call (740) 756-4317.

Dills event

This Thursday evening is Ladies and Lads Night Out at Dills Greenhouse, 5800 Rager Road in Canal Winchester. It starts at 5:45 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m. Enjoy appetizers and plant a container with your friends. The cost is $50. For more information, call 614-836-3700.

Public hearing

The Greenfield Township Board of Zoning Appeals will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. May 30, at the Greenfield Township Fire Department, 3245 Havensport Road, Carroll. The application is for a conditional use for Roger Stebelton, 3015 Lithopolis Rd. Lancaster. The property is currently zoned B-1. The conditional use permit would allow uses such as facilities for storage of personal or corporate property offered on a rental basis, outdoor sales and display areas for retail and commercial uses, and landscape services. The public is invited to attend.
