Simon Carr is out of this year's Giro d'Italia after just three stages.

The 25-year-old EF Education–EasyPost rider was forced to abandon the race after suffering knee issues and is the third competitor to pull out so far.

Carr was born in Hereford and raised by Welsh parents in the south of France.

Tim Merlier outsprinted Jonathan Milan and Biniam Girmay to win stage three.

Tadej Pogacar retained the overall lead, extending his advantage to 45 seconds over Geraint Thomas and the rest of the chasers.
