Carolina Beach doctor charged with nine more counts in child sexual offense case

A Carolina Beach doctor charged with indecent liberties with a child and sexual offense in the first degree is now facing additional charges.

Damian Alexander Brezinski, 61, was arrested around 5 p.m. on May 3, according to a news release from the Kure Beach Police Department. Brezinski was employed as a cardiologist at Island Cardiology and was brought into custody from that location at 1328 N. Lake Park Blvd. in Carolina Beach. Search warrants were also served on Brezinski's medical practice and home at 286 Seawatch Way in Kure Beach.

In addition to his two previous charges, Brezinski now faces charges of statutory rape of a child by an adult, four counts of taking indecent liberties with children, soliciting a child by computer or electronic device, and three counts of statutory sexual offense with a child by an adult, according to a news release from the Kure Beach Police Department from May 8.

In 2019, Brezinski settled a civil case for "allegedly performing unnecessary procedures on patients at New Hanover Regional Medical Center," according to previous StarNews reporting. The case settled for more than $244,000.

Brezinski remains in the New Hanover County Jail as of Thursday under a $1.5 million bond.
