The Arizona Cardinals have had a bit of a tumultuous offseason due to the icy relationship they appeared to develop with star quarterback Kyler Murray.

But with the NFL Draft now over, the Cardinals have made it clear what their plan is for the rest of the offseason. In an interview with Adam Schein, Cardinals general manager Steve Keim said that the team’s goal is to get him a contract extension.

Keim said that Kyler is the future of the franchise and the team wants him in Arizona. As for the timeframe of such a deal, he hinted that it could happen between July and September.

“Anytime you’ve seen quarterbacks after their third year do their contract extensions, it’s generally been anywhere from about to July to September.” Keim said. “It’s one of those things, when we get through free agency and the draft process, I mean it’s a lot of work we put into that. So now we can take a step back, take a breath, refocus, and try to get something done. Like I said, Kyler’s our long-term future, and there’s no doubt we wanna have him here in Arizona.”

The Arizona Cardinals drafted Kyler Murray No. 1 overall in the 2019 NFL Draft and he promptly justified the pick. He earned Rookie of the Year honors and has since made back-to-back Pro Bowlers.

Murray is undoubtedly the best quarterback the Cardinals have had since Kurt Warner, and they want to ensure he stays for a long time.

But it’s hard to tell if that feeling is mutual within the Murray camp.

Will the Cardinals sign Kyler Murray to a contract extension this offseason?
