Former Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones was one of the keynote speakers at the memorial for Dwayne Haskins today. But while singing the praises of the late-great Buckeyes quarterback, he had a message for the media too.

While talking about Haskins’ legacy, Jones called out media members who made comments on Haskins’ career and character in the immediate aftermath of his death. He stated that Haskins deserved to be remembered for the good he did in his life, not the struggles.

“Some of the bogus comments about his character, who he was, from the media outlets and analysts… This is who Dwayne was. Everybody touched by who he was on the field and off the field. A selfless kid…” Jones said.

Jones lamented that Haskins’ life was cut short. He said that everyone who knew Haskins also knew that he was a great person driven by faith.

In a follow-up tweet, Jones doubled-down on his criticism of the media. “I said what I said! RIP Dwayne,” he wrote.

A lot has been made about how members of the media – specifically ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter – initially spoke about Dwayne Haskins when news of his death became public.

Schefter highlighted that Haskins was struggling to make an NFL roster at the time. Fans and supporters immediately crushed Schefter for what was perceived as an unnecessary criticism.

Schefter apologized for his comments earlier in the week, but the damage was done.

There’s a debate to be had on how to discuss someone who passed away. But for Cardale Jones, there’s a line in the sand.
