Car flips over in car wash, trapping 77-year-old driver inside, PA officials say

A 77-year-old man was rescued from a Pennsylvania car wash after his vehicle overturned, officials say.

Firefighters were dispatched at 2:15 p.m. on Jan. 3 to Wave Car Wash in Colmar when the driver became trapped in his car on its side, according to Hatfield Township fire Marshal Mikele Waldron.

It’s believed that the driver pressed his foot on the gas in the wash, which caused the vehicle to overturn, the fire marshal said.

The driver’s leg was pinned in between the door and the car’s body. Waldron said the door was likely open and the man’s was leg out of the car when the accident occurred.

The driver was trapped in the vehicle for nearly 90 minutes as the firefighters used air bags, blocks and jacks to slowly lift the vehicle out of the car wash, according to the fire marshal.

Wave Car Wash said it has temporarily closed due to the mishap.

“Fortunately nobody was seriously injured, but unfortunately several pieces of equipment were destroyed,” the car wash said in a Facebook post.
