Cape Fear, Terry Sanford baseball takes No. 1 seeds into U8, AAC tournaments

The NCHSAA softball and baseball regular seasons have come to a close, and conference tournaments have arrived for postseason play.

Cape Fear baseball finished atop the United 8 Conference after winning the regular-season title outright for the second consecutive season after a walk-off win over Gray's Creek, which finished fourth in the conference Friday night.

Terry Sanford baseball nearly went undefeated in the All American Conference, with their sole loss to Harnett Central. Both teams finished 13-1 to tie for the conference-best record.

Both the AAC and U8 tournaments are set to begin Monday, April 29 with teams of the higher seeds taking the home-field advantage, and a 2024 champion will be crowned on Thursday, May 2.

Here are the U8 and AAC tournament slates to open up the week. All games will begin at 6 p.m.

No. 7 Seventy-First at No. 2 Purnell Swett (10-4)

Wednesday, May 1 - Semifinals

Friday, May 2 - Championship game

No. 8 E.E. Smith (1-13) at No. 1 Terry Sanford (13-1)

No. 5 Overhills (5-8) at No. 4 Pine Forest (8-6)
