Rockets' Dillon Brooks excited for reunion with ex-Grizzlies Steven Adams: 'I can't wait'

Dillon Brooks is excited to be reunited with his old Memphis Grizzlies teammate.

Steven Adams was traded Thursday night from the Grizzlies to the Rockets for Victor Oladipo and three second-round picks, which will bring Adams and Brooks back together. Brooks signed with the Rockets before this season after playing with the Grizzlies since he entered the league in 2017.

Brooks said he messaged Adams right after the trade to tell him about the team and the city.

“He’s a great teammate, great friend, has a lot of knowledge on life and on basketball," Brooks told reporters in Houston. "I can’t wait for him to get down here.”

Adams has not played since he suffered a knee injury in January 2023. He was working his way back toward a return but was ruled out for the season just days before the opener. He's expected to be ready for the start of next season and has one year left on his contract.

"Selfless, will do anything that the coaches ask for," Brooks said. "He listens to each one of the players. He has great knowledge of how to play with Russ (Westbrook), how to play with different guys like that, Ja (Morant). So, he'll be a great thing for Jalen (Green) and Fred (VanVleet).

"One of the best screeners in the NBA. Guys get stuck on his screens, so it opens up a lot for us as shooters and players. Anything that's not in the statistics or whatever, he does that at the highest level."
