Canisteo-Greenwood makes history with first Section V football title

Canisteo-Greenwood became a Section V football champion for the first time in team history Friday night, when the Chargers defeated York/Pavilion 6-0 in the Class D tournament final.

Beau Zeh scored on a four-yard touchdown run with 55 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter at SUNY Brockport.

York/Pavilion (9-2), the tournament's No. 1 seed, and No. 3 Canisteo-Greenwood (9-2) made plenty of mistakes during this championship game, as both defenses came up with plenty of turnovers.

The Chargers put themselves in a position to win when senior quarterback Collin Cox completed a 42-yard pass play to sophomore receiver Carson Chaffee that moved Canisteo-Greenwood to the York/Pavilion 12-yard line with 1:45 remaining.

Zeh carried the ball two yards on the next play, then Cox dodged tacklers during a carry to the York/Pavilion 4. Zeh scored between the offensive tackles, but the conversion kick attempt was no good.

The Chargers wanted to have the ensuing kickoff bounce downfield, but York/Pavilion recovered the ball at the York/Pavilion 46. Two plays later, an interception of a deep pass by Lucas Mason clinched the win and championship for Canisteo-Greenwood.
