Canal Winchester man charged in 2023 bar shooting that killed one, injured another

Columbus police have obtained an arrest warrant for a Canal Winchester man wanted in connection with a September 2023 shooting that left one male dead and another injured.

Kenyatta D. Glass, 37, is charged with murder in the shooting death of 31-year-old Shawn Grooms and the wounding of an unnamed second victim, according to Columbus police. Glass is considered to be armed and dangerous, police said.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Columbus police responded at 1:40 a.m. on Sept. 3, 2023, to a report of a shooting at the Lotus Lounge in the 6000 block of Channingway Boulevard on the city's East Side. Responding officers found Grooms suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Columbus fire medics later arrived on scene and pronounced Grooms dead at 1:50 a.m.

The second shooting victim drove himself to Mount Carmel East Hospital and survived his injuries, police said.

The affidavit states that video surveillance inside the lounge shows Glass near Grooms at the time of the shooting and shows him dropping a gun as he flees the club following the shooting.

Homicide detectives secured shell casings from the scene and matched it to the handgun Glass dropped. Detectives also matched Kenyatta's DNA with DNA that was found on the handgun, the affidavit states.
