Canal Fulton City Council sells two parcels, agrees to buy additional property

Canal Fulton City Council

Tuesday meeting

KEY ACTION: Bought and sold property.

DISCUSSION: Upon reconvening a closed-door session, council agreed to sell two parcels to Ernest Hornak, owner of the Cherry Street Creamery, for $7,000. The small parcels are behind the business.

Council also agreed to enter into a purchase agreement with MDV 1031 LLC to buy 3.9 acres, including a house, on the Lindsay Concrete property. The asking price is $240,000.

OTHER ACTION:

  • Heard that traffic cameras have been installed at three intersections – Beverly Avenue and Locust Street, Cherry and Canal streets, and Cherry and Locust streets. Mayor Joe Schultz said the cameras are to help police determine who is at fault in traffic crashes, not for issuing traffic tickets.

  • Authorized City Manager Dan Bucher Jr. to hire a firm to complete a safety study along Locust Street from Beverly Avenue east to the city limits to determine if traffic lights should be installed at Elm Ridge Avenue and Locust Street and/or Bonita Circle and Locust Street.

  • Agreed to ask the Stark County Auditor to determine how much money would be raised by a proposed 1.6 mill-fire levy. The five-year levy will be on the Nov. 5 ballot for voters to decide.

  • Approved an amendment to the joint fire agreement between the Canal Fulton and Lawrence Township Fire Departments. The amendment allows for the joint purchase of larger equipment. Previously each department bought its own equipment, resulting in unnecessary duplication.

  • Approved an ordinance addressing temporary street or sidewalk closures for various events. Owners, residents, and tenants of the street or sidewalk may sponsor an event, but all who own property or reside within the event area must give their written consent. Such closures may not be used for commercial or advertising purposes or for profit. An application for a permit to close the street or sidewalk must be made to the city manager 14 days prior to the event. A non-refundable fee to be determined by the city manager must be included with the permit application to cover administrative costs.

UP NEXT: Meets at 6 p.m. May 21 at the Safety Center. Work sessions and meetings are livestreamed and recorded. Videos may be viewed on the city’s Facebook page.
