UPDATE: Firefighters found woman dead in Macon home after accidental cooking fire

Update: Firefighters responded to a call about a person down at the house on Glenridge Drive near Interstate 16 Monday morning and found Felicia Oliver, 57, dead, according to a statement from the Bibb County Fire Department.

Oliver’s daughter had called after she went to check on her and found Oliver unresponsive near the front door, the statement said.

Firefighters noticed smoke in the house when they arrived and found that the kitchen had a structure fire, according to the statement. After extinguishing the blaze, investigators declared it was an accidental cooking fire.

Original: A Macon woman was found dead Monday after a call led authorities to a burning house in east Macon near I-16, according to Bibb County coroner Leon Jones.

Firefighters and Bibb sheriff’s investigators found Oliver dead in a burning house at 836 Glenridge Drive near I-16 and downtown Macon after someone called them and told them to go to the house, Jones said.

Deputy coroner Luanne Stone pronounced Oliver dead at about 7:30 a.m., Jones said.

Fire crews and sheriff’s investigators were still looking into what caused the fire and whether Oliver died prior to the blaze Monday.
