Call of Duty Black Ops Is Back For 2024

Call of Duty Black Ops

The next Call of Duty game will be another in the Black Ops series, according to a new report.

The new Call of Duty game, due for release in late 2024, will continue the Black Ops theme of shadowy operations, be set in the Gulf War during the 1990s and feature decade-appropriate guns and hardware, according to Windows Central.

The report suggests it will attempt to portray a nuanced take on the Gulf War, with events dovetailing into the end of the Cold War era.

Developed by Treyarch, the team behind all the major mainline Black Ops games, the multiplayer aspect is likely to reuse maps from previous Black Ops titles including player-favorites WMD and Grind.

It’s also claimed that publisher Activision Blizzard - now fully owned by Xbox maker Microsoft - is keen to pursue a heavy focus on pre-order access, with players getting modes of the game early before general release. The report states this new Black Ops game has been in development for four years.

This year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has come under fire for being rushed in development - rumours say it was turned around in one year - and delivering an experience lacking in features.

Reviews have been brutal, with the game sitting at a poor 56 Metacritic rating from game critics and a risible 1.8 from fans.

The next Call of Duty game is likely to be the first to appear on Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service for subscribers on day one, now that Microsoft owns Activision Blizzard.
