California man busted in stolen porta-potty truck
Something about this crime stinks.
A California man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly stealing a truck carrying two porta-potties, according to police.
The owner of the truck reported its theft to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday morning and told them that he had located it through the onboard GPS tracker.
Deputies tracked down the mobile latrine, but the driver fled, according to police.
Within two minutes, he crossed a set of railroad tracks, drove over a bridge and then dumped the car, continuing to flee by foot.
Deputies, having recognized the suspect from a May arrest, circled back to his home, where they met him.
Francisco Melendez, a 33-year-old man who the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office identified as “one of Fresno County’s most prolific auto thieves,” surrendered peacefully.
Melendez has been charged with auto theft, receiving stolen property, evading police, obstructing a police officer and committing a felony while on bond, according to online jail records.
