California drag performer faces threats after drag brunch video is shared on conservative outlets

A California drag performer is facing growing threats after a video of a recent drag brunch was picked up by right-wing outlets and shared among conservative social media users.

Sabryna Williams was one of the performers at a festive Fourth of July event at Oscar’s in downtown Palm Springs.

Last month, she shared a video of a young girl who joined her on stage to dance to Donna Summer’s classic disco hit “Last Dance.”

“I saw this little girl having a blast, I bent down to her... I said, ‘Do you want to come and dance?’ She said yes, and she ran right up with me onto the stage and started dancing,” Williams told local television station KESQ-TV earlier this month.

“It wasn’t about trying to groom her to be a stripper, or groom her to prove to her that she can use her body to make money. That’s not what this was about,” she added.

Williams later shared the video on TikTok, writing “Drag is for every age.”

The clip, taken at the family-friendly event, was picked up by conservative outlets — including Fox News — and sparked hateful comments from social media users across the country accusing Williams of “indoctrinating” and “grooming” children.

The threats have escalated — and become more alarming — over the last few days.

“When they started calling me, and making those kinds of threats, it became a lot more personal and it became a lot scarier,” Williams told KESQ-TV on Monday.

“The intention was so gracious, that it was so innocent, behind that video. To have what came out because of it, I would never have imagined,” she said.

The venue had to increase security in response to the threats, but that’s not going to stop Williams from doing her job.

“We’re here to entertain and make people smile. And we hope that we can do that for everybody at any age,” she said.
