Cal Fire stops forward spread of blaze in Fresno County foothills; some evacuations remain

Cal Fire has stopped the forward spread of a wildfire that broke out Sunday afternoon in the Fresno County foothills near Squaw Valley, and is listing the Pebble Fire at 55 acres burned with 30% containment.

There were more than 200 fire personnel working the blaze at its height and crews on Sunday night will continue to reinforce and strengthen the containment lines.

“We should have containment (Monday) morning,” Cal Fire battalion chief John Dominguez said.

The fire broke out about 3 p.m. near Pebble Lane and Ripple Lane and the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office is conducting evacuations in the fire area.

As of 7:30 p.m., some evacuations and evacuation warnings were still in place, Dominguez said.

One structure has been damaged as the fire makes its way east and several more were threatened by the wildfire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
