Will Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever be involved with the Indianapolis 500?

How do you know you've made it as an athlete in Indianapolis? One measure is being involved with the Indianapolis 500.

The Indiana Fever selected Caitlin Clark first overall Monday night in the WNBA Draft, and Indianapolis Motor Speedway officials have already welcomed her to town on the scoring pylon.

So how should Clark make her Speedway debut? Wave the green flag? Drive the pace car?

That may be tough this year. IMS and the Fever are both quite busy in May, so finding a time for Clark to properly take in the Speedway may be difficult.

The Fever open the season that Tuesday, May 14, in Connecticut. That's also the opening day of Indy 500 practice.

How about qualifying weekend, May 18-19? The Fever play at New York on that Saturday.

Race week? The Fever are on a Western swing from May 22-25, concluding with a 9 p.m. ET game at Las Vegas on Saturday, May 25.

The Indy 500 is Sunday, May 26.

A plane could be provided to whisk her to IMS that morning from Las Vegas but it might be difficult for Clark to play a significant role.

Clark was grand marshal for one of the IndyCar Series races last year at Iowa Speedway, where she gave the command to start engines.
