Cadillac signs partnership with Cognizant Classic, will it float vehicle on lake by 18th green?

For those wondering: You will not find a Cadillac Escalade IQ floating on the lake by the 18th green during the Cognizant Classic.

But you will see plenty of Cadillacs at PGA National the week of the tournament.

While the event this week announced a partnership with Cadillac that does not mean one of its vehicles will be towed out on the lake and set on a platform to replace the floating Honda, a signature of the tournament for the last 30 years.

The space is reserved for the title sponsor and with Cognizant signing a six-year deal to replace Honda, that primary spot belongs to the IT and consulting company.

"We will not be floating a Cadillac," said Joie Chitwood, Cognizant's interim executive director. "That is out of respect to our title partner, Cognizant. Those are assets that are reserved for the title sponsor relationships. As much as we love Cadillac coming aboard … "

But do not expect to see a gigantic computer floating off the 18th as you are watching Rory McIlroy or Rickie Fowler complete their rounds.

For this year, at least, gators, tricolored heron, anhingas and other wildlife will not have an area on which to sunbath and keep an eye on the boisterous crowd lining the 18th fairway from a distance. Could they in the future? It is possible Cognizant could float a sign at some point, which many title sponsors do when a lake sits by the entrance to the course or near the 18th green.

As the official vehicle of the Cognizant Classic, Cadillac will provide vehicles for PGA Tour players and staff and vehicles will be placed throughout the property. Fans who own Cadillacs will have access to priority parking within designated parking lots with the purchase of a parking pass.

With Honda Motors ending its 42-year sponsorship of the tournament last year, a vehicle was towed in the lake by the 18th green for the last time two weeks before the start of the event.

Then-executive director Andrew George said it was a "a bit emotional" seeing that Honda Pilot Trailsport anchored in its spot.

George said for years the car being placed on that platform was the true kickoff of the tournament.

The Cognizant Classic will be held from Feb. 29-March 3. General admission and hospitality tickets can be purchased at CognizantClassic.com.
