Cabaret takes the stage at Meadowbrook High School Friday and Saturday

BYESVILLE − The Brook Singers, Meadowbrook High School's elite singing group, will bring their annual cabaret show to those hallowed halls once again on Friday and Saturday.

The theme for the 2024 show is #1 hits and will contain parts of more than 50 selections. The playlist consists of decades' worth of top fan favorites. The show will be broken into different segments, each packed with songs that make you turn up the radio.

Dave Wilson, the venerable voice of Guernsey County, will be part of the act, portraying a radio host taking call-in requests. Peppering in interesting tidbits about the artists and songs between numbers, Wilson captures the audience's attention and will keep you smiling. The Meadowbrook Technology class created recordings to be used as the radio call-in requests for the show.

One-hit wonders line the program, and the audience can expect to find themselves singing along with a variety of songs ranging from the Hanson favorite "Mmmm Bob" to the seductive power of Alannah Myles' "Black Velvet," and even the '80s hit "Take On Me" by A-Ha. During the movie music section, hear the theme from "Titanic," "Footloose," and more.

The show will feature dance hits including the "Macarena", "Cotton-Eyed Joe," "The Cha-Cha Slide" and "The Cupid Shuffle" among others. For the British invasion block of numbers, attendees can expect to hear Beatles hits like "Can’t Buy Me Love" featuring Kallie Yerian, Jadyn Ochoa, Braylon Blackstone and Porter McIntyre, "Eleanor Rigby" featuring Mylee Haynes and Eva Stocker, "Yesterday" featuring Elyce Winans and Kaleb Porter, "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band," "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" and others.

The Brook Singers recognizes their senior class members in the program who will perform in cabaret for the last time during their high school tenure. Those seniors include Aleah Merideth, River Berger, Qwen Wagstaff, Dalton Black, Kaleb Porter, Elyce Winans and Luke Black.

The show is set to run at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Meadowbrook High School auditorium. Tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased at the door.
