A kitten caught a big break on Tuesday in Broward County after it got trapped in a situation it couldn’t get out of on a brutally hot summer day.

According to a tweet from the Miramar Police Department, officers responded to a call about a cat wedged in a chain-link fence after a bystander spotted “something” at Perry Park around 6 p.m.

Pictures accompanying the post show the extent of the furball’s predicament. The little thing is so ensnared that at first glance, it’s unclear what kind of animal it actually is.

“She was in very bad shape, it was barely moving,” said MPD spokeswoman Tania Rues. who was initially told the gender was male. “The day was also very hot and we don’t know for how long it was there.”

All appears to be well now. After the fence was cut and the kitten free, cops brought her to the police station for food and water, and named her Guadalupe.

When the poor creature still wasn’t coming around, Guadalupe was sent to VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital. She is currently responding well to treatments for cuts and dehydration, and will be released soon to the local Humane Society.

The police department was happy to lend a hand in a non-crime related matter, said Rues, who joked that the fire folks usually get the animal rescue calls. The tweet included such hashtags as #CopsRescueCatsToo, #NotTheFireDepartmentThisTime, #ServingOurCommunity.
