New businesses opened all around Salisbury, Ocean City and more in 2023: Here's the slate.

It's been a great year for business growth on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Before stepping into the New Year, let's take a look back at the extensive list of businesses — both big and small, local and chain — that opened throughout 2023.

The Other One

2305 Philadelphia Ave.

The Other One Brewing Company made its long-awaited debut on March 3, 2023, at 2305 Philadelphia Ave. The newest Ocean City brewery to hit the shore is, at long last, open for business and serving up some tasty brews.

Pier 23

12817 Harbor Road

Enjoy scenic outdoor dining and live music at Pier 23, now open at 12817 Harbor Road in West Ocean City. Pier 23, the resort town's first waterfront food port, has taken over the former Mad Fish Bar and Grille.

Saltwater 75

115 75th St.

Saltwater 75 opened during spring 2023 at the former home of BJ's on the Water. The new Ocean City restaurant offers seating overlooking the scenic bay, as well as a rooftop bar, spacious dining area, live music, and a full menu of appetizers, sandwiches and entrees.

The Wedge

806 S Atlantic Ave

During the height of summer 2023, the historic Ocean City Boardwalk welcomed The Wedge, a brand-new oceanfront restaurant and bar offering picturesque outdoor seating next to the inlet.

The Embers Restaurant

2305 Philadelphia Ave.

The Embers Restaurant, a fusion of fire and flavor, opened its doors to the town of Ocean City in May 2023. Embers soars to new heights on the third floor of the Embers Center complex as an open kitchen, rooftop concept featuring elevated pizzas, chophouse classics and seafood combinations.

The Salad Box

12501 Coastal Highway

The Salad Box celebrated its official grand opening on June 10, 2023, on 125th Street, right next to Sunsations. The eatery offers a wide array of salads, subs, wraps, bagels, smoothies and more.

Cantina Los Agaves Mexican Grill

12720 Ocean Gateway #7

The building that once housed Tequila Mockingbird is now home to Cantina Los Agaves Mexican Grill. The Mexican restaurant officially opened its doors in West Ocean City's Park Place Plaza on July 29, 2023.

Lavender Moon Metaphysical

14107 Coastal Highway

Lavender Moon Metaphysical, a brand-new metaphysical supply store located at 14107 Coastal Highway in northern Ocean City, opened to the public during spring 2023.

Sugar Planet

81st Street

Ocean City's former Hatland store, located on 81st Street, is now home to Sugar Planet. The two-story, mixed-use building includes both a candy shop and employee housing. The company, previously known as Sugar Kingdom, has since rebranded the chain of candy stores to Sugar Planet and already has other locations on 2nd, 4th, 45th and 120th streets in Ocean City.

Vista Rooftop

13801 Coastal Highway

Vista Rooftop officially opened during summer 2023 on top of Ocean City's Fenwick Inn. The restaurant offers lunch, dinner, light fare and happy hour food, as well as an extensive drinks menu.

Ashore Resort & Beach Club

10100 Coastal Highway

Ashore Resort & Beach Club, formally known as the Ocean City Fontainebleau Resort, opened during May 2023. The resort is comprised of 250 fully renovated guest rooms, including 15 multi-room suites, catering to individuals, families and groups of all sizes.

Tide Room

Tide Room — the upscale restaurant and bar at Ocean City's brand-new Ashore Resort & Beach Club — officially opened to the public Sept. 1, 2023. The new coastal-inspired restaurant offers oceanfront views, as well as indoor and outdoor dining on the restaurant’s terrace.

UMES veterinary school: UMES launching veterinary school in big, historic move to address need

Cube Smart Self Storage

Self-storage company Cube Smart Self Storage opened its second Ocean City location at 11750 Ocean Gateway in West Ocean City during fall 2023.

Salisbury

The Ugly Pie

829 E William St.

The Ugly Pie reopened this year at its new location in Salisbury. The pie shop, owned by Shaina Bounds and Heather Hall, is now located at the former Minuteman Press location at 829 E. William St.

Jersey Mike's

2420 N. Salisbury Blvd

The City of Salisbury is now home to two Jersey Mike's. The brand new north Salisbury location opened in spring 2023 near 2420 N. Salisbury Blvd., in the same shopping center with Cactus Taverna.

CryBaby Tattoo

225 E. Main St.

Salisbury is now home to its very own woman-owned tattoo shop — CryBaby Tattoo. The new business, located at 225 E. Main St., is run by tattoo artist Peach.

Banfield Pet Hospital, the leading provider of preventive veterinary care in the United States, is now open at 2320 N. Salisbury Blvd. The building to which it moved formerly housed Pier 1 Imports.

Build Your Own Bowl

2300 N Salisbury Blvd.

Build Your Own Bowl officially opened Nov. 3, 2023, in The Centre at Salisbury and can be found in the bustling food court. Build Your Own Bowl offers customers açaí bowls, smoothies and more.

MOMO Craft Pizza

Brand-new craft pizza joint MOMO Craft Pizza, located at The Centre at Salisbury with an exterior entrance across from the entrance to the Regal Cinemas 16, has officially opened as of fall 2023 in Salisbury.

Fuji Ramen House

800 S Salisbury Blvd., Unit G

Fuji Ramen House, an authentic Japanese restaurant, opened for business at 800 S Salisbury Blvd. in November 2023. The eatery has taken over the former longtime home of Red Door Sub Shop.

IT'SUGAR

IT’SUGAR candy company is now open at The Centre at Salisbury. According to its website, the trendy candy store specializes in innovative sweets, fun novelty gifts, plush toys and giant candy.

Charley's Philly Cheesesteaks

2702 N. Salisbury Blvd

Charley's Philly Cheesesteaks celebrated its grand opening during March 2023 inside the Walmart at 2702 North Salisbury Blvd. Charley's is a restaurant chain with more than 600 locations nationwide.

T-Jay's Takeout & Delivery Deli

1300 Old Ocean City Rd.

T-Jay's Takeout & Delivery Deli, serving up breakfast, lunch and daily dinner specials including specialty soups and sandwiches, opened during summer 2023 at 1300 Old Ocean City Road in Salisbury.

Popular Peruvian restaurant El Pollo Asado, serving up authentic dishes made with fresh rotisserie chicken, opened a second location during June 2023 at 119 W College Ave. in Salisbury.

Popshelf

127 E N Pointe Drive

Popshelf, the Dollar General chain and Tennessee-based discounter offering an assortment of on-trend products, opened during summer 2023 at 127 E. N. Pointe Drive in Salisbury's The Commons.

La Bamba Flores Fuentes

203 E Carroll St.

A brand new restaurant home to authentic Mexican cuisine opened during October 2023 in Salisbury. La Bamba Flores Fuentes has replaced the former Pinches Tipsy Tacos at 203 E Carroll St.

Chuck's Backyard at Back Street

401 Snow Hill Road

The owners of the popular Salisbury restaurant Back Street Grill have opened their newest business venture — Chuck's Backyard at Back Street, a fun addition to the full service bar and restaurant — as of August 2023. Chuck's Backyard, located right next door to Back Street Grill at 401 Snow Hill Road, is easily connected to its sister restaurant by a sidewalk in the rear.

Holy Macaroni

Holy Macaroni is now open in Salisbury. The macaroni-themed restaurant, serving artisanal, made-from-scratch mac & cheese, has taken over the former home of Pablo’s Bowls at 1306 S Salisbury Boulevard, Suite 176, in Sea Gull Square.

Guido's Pizza & Brew

Salisbury may be familiar with popular restaurant Guido's Burritos Mexican Wood Fired Grill & Tequila Cantina. Now, Guido's Pizza and Brew, a spinoff of the restaurant, has opened at 1303 S Salisbury Blvd. Guido's Pizza and Brew is now serving up artisanal pizzas and craft beers.

Izza Poke & Coffee

Salisbury welcomed Izza Poke & Coffee to town on May 1, 2023. The eatery, a combination of a poke bar and coffee shop, is located at 1306 S Salisbury Blvd., in the Sea Gull Square shopping center.

Soul Sista's

28510 Ocean Gateway

In the mood for soulful food? Stop by Soul Sista's at its brand new location at 28510 Ocean Gateway in Salisbury. The restaurant and lounge officially opened up shop Jan. 18, 2023. The women, veteran, minority and LGBTQ+ owned restaurant serves up homecooked meals.

A new Mexican restaurant is now open in Salisbury. Sazón Mexicano Mix, located at 800 S. Salisbury Blvd., offers food made from authentic family recipes. Sazón Mexicano Mix has taken over the space formerly occupied by Reggae Soul Cafe.

Taylor's BBQ

Salisbury's iconic Taylor's BBQ celebrated its long-awaited grand opening on May 25, 2023, at its new location at 934 S. Salisbury Blvd. The barbeque restaurant was established in 1995 in an effort to bring a true barbecue experience to the Eastern Shore, Taylor's BBQ said online.

Carter's

111 E N Pointe Dr Suite 114

Carter's — the baby and children's clothing story chain — opened its newest location during December 2023 at The Commons shopping center at 111 E N Pointe Dr Suite 114 in Salisbury.

Berlin

Royal Farms

11073 Cathell Road

A new Royal Farms is now open along Route 589 at 11073 Cathell Road in Berlin. The over 5,000-square-foot Royal Farms convenience store comes with a nearly 1,300-square-foot car wash and eight gasoline pumping stations under a canopy. Nearly 50 parking spaces are available.

The Cap'ns Slice

This year, the small town of Berlin welcomed its newest pizzeria to town. The Cap'ns Slice, located at 8 Pitts St., offers an array of pizza pie options with playful names, such as America, Han Solo and more.

Blazer

12 William St.

Blazer, Berlin's newest local vintage store, is now open for business. The store, offering an array of clothing and other items added daily, celebrated its official grand opening on Nov. 16, 2023.

2nd Wave Coffee & Social

19 Williams St.

2nd Wave Coffee & Social, Berlin's newest coffee shop, celebrated its soft opening on Oct. 31, 2023. The coffee shop is serving up locally sourced coffee from Annapolis's Ceremony Coffee Roasters.

Forgotten 50 Distilling

10103 Old Ocean City Blvd

Upscale yet casual Shore distillery Forgotten 50 Distilling celebrated its official grand opening on Aug. 4, 2023, at 10103 Old Ocean City Blvd. in Berlin. The Forgotten 50 Distilling team is made up of head distiller and operator Cody Miller, bar manager and mixologist Tim McCall and executive chef Jeff Phillips.

Salty Yarns

10452 Old Ocean City Blvd.

Salty Yarns, a beloved Boardwalk destination in Ocean City, has relocated to the small town of Berlin. The yarn store is now located at 10452 Old Ocean City Blvd. Salty Yarns, the largest carrier of needlework supplies on the Eastern Shore, has been specializing in counted cross stitch since 1972.

Holy Macaroni

11436 Samuel Bowen Blvd

In addition to Holy Macaroni's latest grand opening in the city of Salisbury, the restaurant celebrated its third grand opening of the year, this one in the small town of Berlin. The eatery, which officially opened on Oct. 27, 2023, has taken over the former Pizza Peel location at 11436 Samuel Bowen Blvd.

Playa Bowls

Playa Bowls, the nation’s leading superfruit bowl shop, is now open for business in Berlin as of June 29, 2023. Playa Bowls, located at 11436 Samuel Bowen Blvd., offers a wide selection of healthy and fresh açaí, pitaya, oatmeal and coconut bowls, as well as juices, smoothies and cold brew.

Treaty General Store

The small town of Berlin welcomed Treaty General Store during fall 2023. As stated on the store's website, Treaty General Store is a specialty boutique that offers a fresh perspective on American-made clothing brands and specialty items, alongside homewares, apothecary and small batch goods.

Relish Décor

7 N Main St.

Relish Décor, a sibling to Treaty General Store, is now open in the small town of Berlin. The boutique expanded from its original location at 38 E. Patrick St. in Frederick. Relish Décor is a lifestyle boutique known for a stylish selection of tabletop housewares, kitchen furnishings and unique gifts, the business shared online.

The Five Tides

A new business has made its way to Assateague State Park in place of the former Pony Express. The Five Tides, "a purveyor of fresh eats, wearables and supplies," opened to the public on May 20 at 7307 Stephen Decatur Highway in Berlin.

Braddah Barney's

12 Broad St.

Popular modern Asian cuisine café Braddah Barney's has relocated from West Ocean City to Berlin. Now, the café's new location, the former Globe Theatre at 12 Broad Street, offers guests additional seating options as well as southern-style cuisine.

British Rose

British Rose, which opened on April 1, 2023, at 18 North Main St. in Berlin, is owned and operated Larnet St. Amant and her sister, Debbie. British Rose offers a large selection of home goods and fun finds, including glassware, snacks, beauty products, kitchenware, dog toys, home décor and more.

Roadie Joe's Bar & Grill

A Salisbury hotspot opened a new location on the Eastern Shore this year. That's right, restaurant and bar Roadie Joe's has expanded to the small town of Berlin, where it opened on Feb. 3, 2023.

Honey Water Candles

12 Artisans Way

Berlin's quaint, locally owned candle shop, Honey Water Candles, relocated to and reopened at 12 Artisans Way in January 2023. The shop, previously located at 16 West Main St. in Berlin, houses more than just candles. Several of owner Natalie Blanton's artistic creations, including natural hand-dyed dish towels, satin throw pillows, and expressive acrylic paintings and prints are also on display.

Coastal Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine

Coastal Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine celebrated its grand opening in Berlin on June 15, 2023. The clinic, a place for holistic healing, prides itself on providing relief when chemicals and surgeries have not shown themselves to be effective.

Coastal Aesthetics & Wellness is now open in Ocean Pines. The medical spa, which also has a location in Salisbury, celebrated its ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11032 Nicholas Lane, Suite A101 on Nov. 16, 2023. The medical spa offers an array of services, including botox, emsculpt, custom facials, laser hair removal and more.

Pocomoke City welcomed Cosmic Vintage & Mid Century, to town on Oct. 5, 2023. The brand new local store offers patrons a unique vintage and antique shopping experience.
