Burlington restaurant, Shelburne distillery announce that they will be closing

Two Chittenden County food-and-drink establishments – a Moroccan restaurant in Burlington and a distillery in Shelburne – announced this month that they will be closing.

The restaurant, Little Morocco Café, revealed on social media and its website March 5 that it will close its doors Tuesday, March 26.

“Please know that we have been honored serving you all these years and we invite you to come taste our delicious Moroccan cuisine one last time,” reads the announcement from Little Morocco Café.

The restaurant opened in the Old North End of Burlington at the end of 2018 in the North Winooski Avenue building that also houses Despacito – a Puerto Rican-inspired vegan eatery and music space – and Burly Axe Throwing.

“We’re trying to bring a little of that (Moroccan) culinary history to Vermont,” Little Morocco Café’s restaurant manager, Adill Ramani, told the Burlington Free Press in 2019. “It’s all the (cultures) who’ve had any influence on Moroccan culinary history.”

Wild Hart Distillery shuts down

A Shelburne-based distiller of vodka, gin and other spirits posted March 7 on social media that it has ceased production after seven years in business.

“We’ve done great things and connected with great people along the way but life/work balance has been out of whack for sometime,” co-founder Craig Stevens wrote on social media and Wild Hart Distillery’s website.

“For those of you who have met me at farmers markets and tasting events you know the passion I have for connecting with people and for our products and I will miss that aspect of our work but I am looking forward to being on the other side of the table and having time to enjoy the wares of all the amazing makers in our communities,” Stevens wrote.

Wild Hart Distillery began in 2017 in a complex off U.S. 7 in Shelburne near Fiddlehead Brewing. That space includes the shortbread maker Douglas Sweets.

“Our products are still available at 802 stores (state-regulated liquor retail outlets) and we’ve made some shipments to make the supply last longer,” Stevens wrote.
