Burglar has jail term doubled by Court of Appeal
A masked burglar who broke into a pregnant woman's home armed with a machete has had his jail term doubled after his original sentence was deemed too lenient.
Creddy Taylor, 21, of Gamble Hill Place, Leeds, was sentenced to four years at Bradford Crown Court on 12 January after being convicted of aggravated burglary.
He was part of a group of masked men who stole money and jewellery from a house in Bradford on 25 July last year.
His sentence was increased to eight years after it was referred to the Court of Appeal under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme.
Solicitor General Robert Courts KC said: "I was appalled to learn of this horrific robbery and extend my sympathies to the victim who went through a traumatic ordeal.
"The court’s intervention is a welcome one and this case should send a stark warning that those who commit violent burglaries will face the full extent of the law for their crimes."
During his trial, the court heard the group of men - one of whom was wielding a machete - smashed their way into the house in Wentworth Crescent and stole expensive items including watches, designer items, and money.
The victim, who was pregnant at the time, managed to flee the property as the burglary took place.
Following Taylor's initial sentencing, Det Con Sam Williams at West Yorkshire Police said he was a "prolific offender."
