The Jamaican news outlet reports that Wailer’s death in a Kingston hospital at 8 a.m. Tuesday was confirmed by his manager. The reggae pioneer, born Neville O’riley Livingston, had reportedly been in and out of the hospital since suffering a stroke in July. His cause of death has not yet been published.

He had also suffered a stroke in 2018 that impaired his speech, according to Caribbean National Weekly.

Wailer was a founding member of the trailblazing band the Wailers, which included Marley and Peter Tosh. Marley died in 1981 and Tosh was killed in 1987.

His 1991 album, “Time Will Tell: A Tribute to Bob Marley,” accounted for one of his three Grammy Awards.
