Several restaurants in the Myrtle Beach area had inspection violations due to bugs, holes in walls, dirt, and debris buildup.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control routinely inspects restaurants, with data up to date as of March 27, 2024.

Here were the worst restaurant inspections SCDHEC found.

Homewood Depot & Grill

Address: 2921 Highway 701 North, Conway

Score: 77 percent

Homewood Depot & Grill was inspected March 22, 2024, and several violations were found. SCDHEC found a build-up of dirt, debris and grime in the walk-in cooler, ice machine, dry storage room and prep cooler. SCDHEC also found a hole in the wall in the men’s restroom.

Homewood Depot & Grill did not have an employee present with a food handler certificate, and the restaurant was missing written policies for issues such as employee health, vomiting and diarrhea clean-up.

According to the report, a refrigerator was also broken, and paper towels were missing from the hand sink, among other violations.

SCDHEC’s report concluded that the establishment is required to have an on-site follow-up inspection within 10 days.

Refuel 51

Address: 6151 Highway 707, Myrtle Beach

Score: 78 percent

SCDHEC inspected Refuel 51 March 22, 2024, and the report found several violations.

The report found that a cutting board, knives and drip sets were stored clean despite soiled surfaces. Foods were not kept at proper holding temperatures and ready-to-eat foods did not have date markings.

Along with other violations SCDHEC found, Refuel 51 must have an on-site, follow-up inspection within 10 days. SCDHEC concluded that the restaurant would be downgraded if violations were not corrected.

Roma Pizza

Address: 2699 Beaver Run Blvd., Surfside Beach

Score: 78 percent

SCDHEC inspected Roma Pizza March 18, 2024, and the report found several violations. Apart from foods not being stored at proper holding temperatures and ready-to-eat foods not having date markings, pesticide was found in the kitchen.

The report also found soiled surfaces behind a sink and burnt-out light bulbs in the front kitchen. Furthermore, in addition to other violations SCDHEC found, drink crates were being reused for shelving.

SCDHEC’s report concluded Roma Pizza must have a follow-up inspection within 10 days to address its violations. The report added Roma Pizza could be downgraded if they do not correct its violations.

Island Bar

Address: 2272 Glenns Bay Road, Myrtle Beach

Score: 80 percent

SCDHEC inspected Island Bar March 18, 2024, and the report found several violations. The chemical ware washer, a type of dishwasher, did not have sufficient levels of chlorine-based sanitizer, according to the report.

SCDHEC found several soiled surfaces in the kitchen and inside the bar keg cooler. The report also found a hole in the wall next to the cookline sink, and food improperly thawed and not kept to proper holding temperatures.

However, SCDHEC returned to Island Bar March 27, 2024, and found the restaurant had addressed many of its previous violations, giving the Myrtle Beach eatery a 99 percent.

3500 North Ocean Grill

Address: 3500 North Ocean Blvd., North Myrtle Beach

Score: 83 percent

SCDHEC inspected North Ocean Grill March 21, 2024, and found several violations. The restaurant was not keeping food at the proper holding temperature, according to the report. SCDHEC also observed roaches in the kitchen refrigerator and a bug light above a beverage machine.

SCDHEC also found food products on the freezer floor, and the buffet did not have sneeze guards. SCDHEC concluded that 3500 North Ocean Grill is required to have an on-site follow-up inspection within 10 days.

Soco Grille

Address: 619 Front Street, Georgetown

Score: 84 percent

SCDHEC inspected Soco Grille March 19, 2024, and found several violations. The inspection found raw chicken stored over produce, although the report concluded there were no signs of contamination.

SCDHEC also found food, grease and debris build-up in the kitchen, on the wall and in a microwave. The report also found food stored at incorrect holding temperatures and without a time mark.

However, SCDHEC returned to Soco Grille March 26, 2024, and gave the restaurant a 100 percent grade.

Little Caesars

Address: 4684 Socastee Blvd., Myrtle Beach

Score: 84 percent

SCDHEC inspected Little Caesars March 22, 2024, and found several violations. The report found heavy grease and dust build-up on the underside hood over the pizza conveyor, ceiling and wall.

SCDHEC also found a table with a missing leg by the cookline, a self-closing window did not work and other violations were found.

SCDHEC’s report concluded that Little Caesar’s Socastee Boulevard location had been downgraded due to repeated violations. The report added that the site must also have an additional on-site follow-up inspection within 10 days.

Dragon Pan

Address: 201 Fresh Drive, Suite B, Myrtle Beach

Score: 85 percent

Dragon Pan was inspected March 20, 2024, and SCDHEC found some violations. In addition to food missing date labels and an employee using the wrong sink to wash their hands, SCDHEC observed a Palmetto bug in the dining room.

However, SCDHEC returned to Dragon Pan March 26, 2024, and received a 100 percent inspection score.

Market Express #7394

Address: 490 Highway 9 East, Longs

Score: 85 percent

SCDHEC inspected Market Express #7394 March 19, 2024, and found several violations.

These included foods without discard time labels, unclean equipment surfaces, grease build-up on the cookline floor and damage to a cookline wall. SCDHEC’s report concluded that Market Express will have an on-site follow-up inspection within 10 days.
