Buddy's Pizza has a new twist on Monday's annual fundraiser to help those in need

Each year, Buddy's Pizza dedicates a day to raise money for people in need with its annual Slice for Life event. This year, the Detroit-born chain's annual event has a unique twist aimed at raising additional cash.

On Monday, Buddy's will donate 20% of dine-in and carryout sales from all 23 restaurant locations to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen organization. But that's not all. Diners can also vie for a piece of pizza history during an online auction of five authentic Buddy’s Pizza custom pans.

The deep, square pans, once used by automakers to hold parts, have long been identified with Buddy's. Over the years, they've helped give Detroit-style pizza its identity, along with the pizza-assembly method pioneered by Buddy's: crisp edges laced with caramelized cheese crust and sauce on top of the cheese.

Buddy’s partnership with the Capuchin Soup Kitchen began in 1976 at Buddy’s original location at Six Mile and Conant in Detroit. Since then, Buddy's has donated more than $4 million to Capuchin programs. Last year, it raised nearly $100,000.
