Buddy Boeheim Releases Statement On His In-Game Punch

Syracuse guard Buddy Boeheim has found himself at the center of a controversial incident. During this Wednesday’s game against Florida State, he was seen throwing a punch to Wyatt Wilkes’ midsection.

Boeheim wasn’t called for an offensive foul during the game, but it was evident that he crossed the line with this move.

Shortly after Syracuse’s win, Boeheim released a statement on this situation. He said he apologized to Wilks several times during the handshake line.

“In the heat of today’s game, after some shoving in the lane, I swung my arm while turning to go back up the court,” Boeheim said. “It was wrong to act out in frustration. I apologized to Wyatt Wilkes multiple times in the handshake line. He said not to worry about, but I know it was wrong. I pride myself in respecting the game ands our opponent. I will not react that way again.”

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, who happens to be Buddy’s father, had an interesting response when asked about this moment in his postgame press conference.

“I saw the play, the kid pushed him twice,” Boeheim said, via ESPN. “I think it was inadvertent. It wasn’t much of a punch.”

As of now, Boeheim hasn’t received any punishment from the ACC for his actions.

Boeheim finished this Wednesday’s game with 14 points. He’ll need to be even better on Thursday if Syracuse wants to defeat Duke.
