Bucyrus Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary plans tea fundraiser for May

Bucyrus Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary met Monday at Maplecrest Assisted Living Community to begin planning for a tea fundraiser event in May.

The You, Me and a Cup of Tea fundraiser is planned for Saturday, May 4, at Hord Event Center.

SAWA President Pam Holtshouse said the proceeds from the event will go to the Kicks for Kids project that aims at empowering and incentivizing children through the sense of self-worth and Warmth 4 Winter coats project.

“It’s definitely a big fundraiser,” Holtshouse said. “It’s going to be a beautiful event.”

The event will offer three courses, a choice of three teas at 19 beautifully decorated round tables, a guest speaker, video presentation and a raffle for 20 items.

Decorating Committee member Susan Maynard said tables and the entrance ways will be decorated.

Marylyn Strang, chair of the Decorating Committee, said the men’s room will be converted into a women’s room by putting something special at the door so it could be recognized as a women’s room.

Favors Committee Co-Chair Sandy Laipply said favors will be made, and each person attending the event will receive a surprise inside.

Rhonda Rowland from Serving and Video Committees said the Serving Committee was preparing to have two servers per table, making the total number of servers 38. Of that number, said Rowland, they have found 31 volunteers among the SAWA members.

“We want everyone to feel like they are engaged, and they are being taken care of,” Rowland said.

She said the committee would provide entertainment for guests before starting to serve. Every server will wear a white shirt and black pants to look crisp and professional.

“It’s just very important to us that they feel loved, appreciated, and just a wonderful time for an afternoon tea,” said Rowland.

The Video Committee, she said, is working on creating a video that will focus on the history of the Salvation Army and on the purpose of the SAWA group.

Funding

SAWA Treasurer Linda Efaw said the event is aimed at raising $4,560 if all the tickets are sold. She said to start the process SAWA collected funds in advance, including dues.

“So that we only have to have one a year, and we could use these funds for Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary’s events in the future,” Efaw said.

The ticket sales will start in the beginning of February. Ticket price is $30 and they are available for purchase from SAWA members. There are152 tickets available.
