Bucks County, South Jersey in for a dousing on Thursday, May 23

The summer-like conditions enjoyed in the Bucks County-South Jersey region on Wednesday will give way to rain and thunderstorms expected to move into the region on Thursday, May 23, setting up a turbulent Memorial Day weekend.

If you’re getting ready to head out for the day or just want to know what to expect, here’s a look at the forecast from the National Weather Service.

What’s the weather on Thursday, May 23, in Bucks County?

Whereas Wednesday in Bucks County was sunny and warm, Thursday will be cloudy and wet, said Eric Hoeflich, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

"We are expecting some showers and thunderstorms in Bucks County on Thursday," Hoeflich said. "We are still nailing down the exact timing, but it should arrive around the mid afternoon or early evening.

"Thursday's temperatures should be in the low 80s in Bucks County."

Hoeflich said the threat of widespread thunderstorms on Thursday is pretty remote, but the entire region will get some amount of rain.

That rainfall won't cause any flooding, Hoeflich said.

What’s the weather on Thursday, May 23, in South Jersey?

It will be rainy on Thursday in South Jersey as well, with any rainfall not doing much to low the heat nor humidity. Otherwise, Thursday will be soupy, with mostly cloudy skies and temperatures hovering in the mid- to upper 80s.

Rain is expected between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Thursday's storms could generate strong winds, Hoeflich said.

"It won't be widespread and we're not expecting any severe threats, Hoeflich said. "But, a few of the storms could produce damaging wind gusts in South Jersey."

Forecasts for Bucks County and South Jersey

Bucks County will dry out a little on Friday, leading to a three-day holiday weekend during which spotty rainfall is expected throughout.

"Friday calms down a bit and should be mostly dry," Hoeflich said. "There could be some afternoon showers and thunderstorms on Saturday, but nothing too severe.

"There will be lingering showers on Sunday, but it should be mainly dry."

Any showers will occur during the midday hours on Friday, according to the National Weather Service's 7-day outlook for Bucks County. Overall, Thursday will be mostly cloudy with temperatures around 84 degrees.

There will be a mix of sun and clouds on Saturday in Bucks County, with a daylong threat of intermittent showers. Temperatures should reach 81 degrees on Saturday.

The chance of rain seeps through to Sunday afternoon in Bucks County, when it will be partly sunny with daytime highs nearing 83 degrees.

There will be a cloudy start for Friday in South Jersey, but skies should clear by the afternoon, leading to a mostly sunny day overall with temperatures in the mid 80s, according to the National Weather Service's 7-day outlook for South Jersey.

There is less of chance of rain on Saturday in South Jersey than it is in Bucks County, as the weather service calls for only a minor threat of rain for an otherwise partly sunny day. Temperatures in South Jersey on Saturday should reach the lower 80s. It may rain overnight Saturday, however.

Sunday will be bright in South Jersey, with clear skies and temperatures in the mid 80s.

Hoeflich said Memorial Day is shaping up to be something of a washout in the Bucks County-south Jersey region.

"Rain will move in Sunday night through Monday," Hoeflich said. "Monday is perhaps not the best day of the holiday weekend, as there may be some rain and thunderstorms."
