After his comments regarding the PGA Tour and competing Saudi-backed golf league sparked controversy, Phil Mickelson announced he was taking a leave of absence.

Since going on hiatus, Mickelson has been quiet. He hasn’t played in any events, and won’t be at Augusta National this week for the Masters.

It sounds like even his fellow players, like Bryson DeChambeau, haven’t heard from him. DeChambeau was asked on Monday if he had spoken with Mickelson lately and admitted he hadn’t heard from the legendary southpaw.

“I’ve tried to reach out but there’s nothing. He’s gone dark. There’s no contact,” DeChambeau said.

Mickelson was clearly embarrassed by the reaction his comments generated, which led to his retreat from the public sphere. It’s likely only temporary, but he doesn’t seem to be in a rush to end it right now.

When he does want to engage, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan has said he’s open to having a conversation with the six-time major champion.

“I think that as it relates to Phil, you said it: The ball is in his court,” Monahan said last month, via ESPN. “He has said that he’s stepping away and he wants time for reflection. That’s something that I and we are going to respect and honor. When he’s ready to come back to the PGA Tour, we’re going to have that conversation. That’s a conversation I look forward to.”
