Just a few days before the Olympics was set to kick off, a notable member of Team USA was ruled out of competition.

Star golfer Bryson DeChambeau tested positive for COVID-19 and was forced to withdraw from competition. It was a tough break for DeChambeau, who was one of the favorites for a medal.

With the men’s golf competition in the rearview, DeChambeau opened up on missing the Olympics. Despite testing positive for COVID-19 and dealing with the consequences, he made it clear he doesn’t plan to get vaccinated.

“The thing is, the vaccine doesn’t necessarily prevent it from happening,” DeChambeau said Wednesday at TPC Southwind following his pro-am round ahead of the World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational.

“I’m young enough,” he continued. “I’d rather give (the vaccine) to people who need it. I don’t need it. I’m healthy. I’m a young individual who will continue to be healthy and continue to work on my health.”

DeChambeau went on to say he doesn’t regret his decision to not be vaccinated, which was part of the reason he missed the Olympics.

It’s an interesting decision for DeChambeau, who will continue to travel on the PGA Tour for the next few months. Hopefully it doesn’t come back to bite him as he enters the FeedEx Cup playoffs.
