The Bruce Springsteen Movie Will Likely Star the Two Best Jeremys
I don’t want to jinx it, but Hollywood has been on a roll lately. After the SAG-AFTRA strike put a (necessary) hold on production, we were treated to an endless array of reboots and truly terrible titles. Finally, storytelling is en vogue once again. Case in point—the new Bruce Springsteen film Deliver Me from Nowhere, which is in talks to star not one but two of Hollywood’s best Jeremy’s.
According to Deadline, Jeremy Allen White is confirmed to play Springsteen. Now, per Variety, Succession star and Emmy winner, Jeremy Strong, is in talks to play Springsteen’s manager, Jon Landau. If it works out, the duo will helm the film—which will follow the making of Springsteen’s 1989 album, Nebraska.
Deliver Me from Nowhere is written and directed by Scott Cooper. 20th Century Studios will distribute the film. Springsteen and Landau are reportedly involved as well. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime honor to be collaborating with Bruce Springsteen, an inspiring and incomparable artist who represents so much to so many,” said Disney Live Action and 20th Century Studio President, David Greenbaum. “The deep authenticity of his story is in great hands with my friend Scott Cooper whom I am thrilled to be collaborating with once again.”

What is Deliver Me from Nowhere About?
Deliver Me from Nowhere depicts the creation of Nebraska. The record rivals Joni Mitchell’s record Blue, as one of the most honest and emotional albums in history. Nebraska was Springsteen’s follow-up to his 1980 album The River. The album was expected to be pure rock and roll, but instead, Springsteen delivered a collection of raw, stripped-down songs that were made on a four-track recorder.
Deliver Me from Nowhere is based on Warren Zane’s book, Deliver Me from Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska. The text was released in 2003, long after Nebraska had been dubbed a classic. While working on the book, Zane spoke with Springsteen about his creative process. He also interviewed artists like Rosanne Cash and Steven Van Zandt about their reactions to the record.
In the upcoming film, White will portray a young Springsteen, who was thirty-three years old when he recorded Nebraska. Back in 2018, Springsteen spoke with Esquire about how his upbringing impacted his music. “When I was a child and into my teens, I felt like a very, very, empty vessel,” he said. “And it wasn’t until I began to fill it up with music that I began to feel my own personal power and my impact on my friends and the small world that I was in. I began to get some sense of myself. But it came out of a place of real emptiness. I made music for that kitchen. Go to Nebraska and listen to it.”
Though the exact plot is under wraps, we’re excited to see how Cooper weaves in Springsteen’s backstory to paint a picture of the artist and his music.
When Will Deliver Me from Nowhere Debut in Theaters?
Deliver Me from Nowhere does not have a premiere date yet, but according to Variety, the film is expected to begin shooting this fall. If we’re lucky, the film could release sometime in 2025. We’ll keep you posted as more information is available.
