Bruce Arians Says Buccaneers Will Fine Unvaccinated Players Who Break Protocol

Earlier this week, the NFL announced a new set of COVID-19 guidelines for the upcoming 2021 season.

The NFL made it abundantly clear the league wants players to be vaccinated. As a result, the league announced teams that experience a COVID-19 outbreak must forfeit games – rather than the league rescheduling them.

Players themselves will be subject to punishment as well. One NFL team put rules in place to help ensure an outbreak doesn’t happen on the team.

According to Tampa Bay Buccaneers insider Rick Stroud, head coach Bruce Arians said the team will fine unvaccinated players who break protocol.

“Arians says he plans to fine any unvaccinated player who breaks a COVID-19 protocol $14k without a warning,” Stroud said. “He says unvaccinated players will tested 140 times. He estimates vaccinated players will be tested 14 times.”

Arians went on to say that he thinks the Buccaneers will have at least 85-percent of the team vaccinated by the time roster cuts come around.

Most teams in the league have at least 70-percent of the team vaccinated. However, the Buccaneers are the only team to publicly state unvaccinated players will be fined for breaking protocol.

With the NFL’s new rules of a possible forfeiture, it makes sense for teams to encourage their players to get the vaccine. On top of their overall health and wellness – of course.

Tampa Bay kicks off its title defense with a home game against the Dallas Cowboys on September 9.
