This Tuesday, Tom Brady will reach a very special milestone in his football career and in life: his 44th birthday. To commemorate this August 3, Bruce Arians plans to reward him with a unique birthday present.

Arians and Brady have developed a strong relationship during their brief time together, so the Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach decided to give his quarterback the one thing he could: a day off from practice.

“It’s amazing the fire that burns in him that makes him do this,” Arians said, per Buccaneers team reporter Scott Smith. “There’s nobody out there competing any harder than him. Yeah, it’s awesome. We’ll throw him a bone and give him a day off.”

Arians might be genuinely willing to let Brady have the day off but it’s possible that the seven-time Super Bowl champ might show up anyway. He might be turning 44, but as a his head coach said, there’s almost nothing that he loves more than playing football.

The rest of the NFL has been waiting on Brady’s downfall for the last few years, but he’s proved that age really is just a number. At 43 years old last season, he still ranked in the top five in both passing yards (4,633) and touchdowns (40).

Apart from his individual statistics, Brady also led the Buccaneers through a difficult postseason and into the Super Bowl against the high-powered Kansas City Chiefs. He showed a tremendous amount of poise during the championship game and captured his seventh Lombardy Trophy with a 31-9 win.

Once he turns 44, little will change for Brady. He’ll return to the Buccaneers, maybe even for practice on Tuesday on his big day, and then he’ll try to mount another title run this season.

He might be another year older, but betting against him never seems like a smart decision.
