Say this about Bruce Arians: he’s nothing if not honest. Some of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers receivers heard that forthrightness up close and personal today.

According to observers, the Bucs recorded a number of drops during Wednesday’s joint practice session with the Tennessee Titans. That won’t fly with Tom Brady, and it isn’t going to fly with Arians either.

Using some colorful language, Arians made it clear his team “dropped way too many damn passes.”

While Arians didn’t single any players out with his message, he did make it clear that he’s more concerned about younger, unproven players not catching the ball as opposed to established veterans.

“If it’s Mike [Evans] or Chris [Godwin] or Gronk, no,” Arians said, via Pro Football Talk. “But if it’s young players, yes. Maybe the lights are too big. We’ll go back and evaluate it but way too many drops.”

For what it’s worth, Tampa Bay registered 32 drops as a team in 2020, the sixth-most in the entire NFL. It didn’t hurt them when it counted, as the Bucs rolled through the playoffs and won the Super Bowl.

That doesn’t mean Arians won’t continue to emphasize the need to catch the ball this season though.
