Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Malik McDowell was reportedly arrested on Monday after his involvement in a troubling incident.

According to the South Florida Sun Sentinel, McDowell was arrested in Deerfield Beach, Florida on charges of public exposure and beating a deputy in a “violent attack.”

Per the police report obtained by the Sun-Sentinel, the incident began after a call was received about a man that was walking naked near a school. A deputy that arrived on the scene became the victim of the aforementioned “violent attack” that reportedly left him “dazed.” The officer claimed that McDowell charged at him, “at full speed with closed fist.”

The Browns addressed the “very concerning” incident involving McDowell on Tuesday morning, shortly after the Sun-Sentinel published the report.

“We are aware of the very concerning incident and arrest involving Malik McDowell and are in the process of gathering more information,” the team said in a statement, per Nate Ulrich. “We understand the severity of this matter and our thoughts are for the well-being of all involved. … No further comment at this time.”

McDowell, 25, has had multiple run-ins with law enforcement in the past. In 2017, he was charged with a DUI in September and was arrested again for disorderly conduct in December.

Less than two years later in February of 2019, McDowell was charged with assault, resisting arrest, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated in Michigan. The league suspended him for two games as a result of the incident.

More discipline could be on the way former Michigan State Spartan, who played for the first time in the NFL in 2021. After he was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round of the 2017 draft, he struggled to get playing time due to injuries and his off-the-field incidents.

McDowell played in 15 games for the Cleveland Browns this season, tallying 30 tackles and three sacks.
