Broward municipal roundup: Incumbent mayors Thurston, Gomez and Newton win another term

In Broward County municipal races, incumbent mayors Ken Thurston of Lauderhill, Michelle Gomez of Tamarac and Scott Newton of Wilton Manors held on to their posts. Meanwhile Mayor Ana Ziade of North Lauderdale lost to challenger Samson Borgelin and Plantation Mayor Lynn Stoner lost to Nick Sortal.

For Fort Lauderdale City Commission District 1, John Charles Herbst won against three other candidates.

Fort Lauderdale City Commission District 3:

Pam Beasley-Pittman defeated three other candidates to be the next Fort Lauderdale District 3 commissioner.

Fort Lauderdale City Commission District 4:

Warren Sturman won in a crowded field of seven candidates to be the next Fort Lauderdale District 4 commissioner.

Hallandale Beach City Commission Seat 1:

Hallandale Beach Vice Mayor Mike Butler defeated challengers Keith S. London, Matthew “Matt” Lorenzo and Galina D. Urman for Seat 1 on the City Commission.

Hallandale Beach City Commission Seat 2:

Joy D. Adams won her election against Qunea Gordon and Greg Waters for Seat 2 on the Hallandale Beach City Commission.

Hollywood City Commission District 3:

Incumbent Hollywood City District 3 Commissioner Traci L. Callari defeated challenger Alan Darder.

Hollywood City Commission District 5:

Incumbent Hollywood City Commissioner Kevin Biederman successfully held off challenger Francisco Vargas.

Lauderdale Lakes City Commission Seat 1:

Mark Anthony Spence defeated Vice Mayor Marilyn Davis and candidate Floyd Amos to serve on Lauderdale Lakes City Commission Seat 1.

Lauderdale Lakes City Commission Seat 2:

Sharon Thomas won against Nethel L. Stephens and Sandra Davey to serve on Seat 2 of the Lauderdale Lakes City Commission.

Lauderhill City Commissioner Seat 4:

Incumbent Denise D. Grant retained her Seat 4 on the Lauderhill City Commission against challenger Miguelaille “Migy” Pierre.

Margate City Commission Seat 3:

Margate Mayor Antonio V. Arserio retained his Seat 3 against challenger Theresa Booker.

Margate City Commission Seat 5:

Incumbent Margate City Commissioner Joanne Simone kept her Seat 5 against challenger Nina Culver.

North Lauderdale City Commission District A:

Incumbent Lorenzo Charles Wood lost to challenger Luke Lewis, who also won over Martinus D. Rolle for North Lauderdale City Commission District A.

Oakland Park City Commission at-large:

With seven of the 10 Oakland City precincts reporting in at 10:30 p.m. Tim Lonergan held the lead against Letitia “Tish” Newbold, Steven R. Arnst, Coby King, Kedner Maxine and Fitzgerald Budhoo, Sr. for the at-large Oakland Park City Commissioner seat.

Plantation City Council member Group 1:

Plantation City Councilman Erik Anderson defeated his challenger for Group 1, Carol Sword.

Plantation City Council member Group 2:

Incumbent Plantation City Councilman Denise Horland retained his representation of Group 2 against challenger James Michael Frommert.

Plantation City Council member Group 5:

Louis Reinstein won the most votes out of three opponents — H. Wayne Clarke, Jr. and Dylan Cole — for Plantation City Council Group 5.

Pompano Beach City Commission District 2:

Pompano Beach City Commissioner District 2 incumbent Rhonda Eaton defeated challengers Thomas Terwilliger, Barbara “BJ” Coons, Luiz Dasilva and David van der Most.

Pompano Beach City Commission District 3:

Alison Fournier defeated incumbent Tom McMahon and Tom Heinrich to be the next Pompano Beach District 3 city commissioner.

Pompano Beach City Commission District 4:

Vice Mayor Beverly Perkins successfully held off challengers Kevin Eason Sr. and Mary Scofield-Phillips for District 4 of the Pompano Beach City Commission.

Pompano Beach City Commission District 5:

Incumbent Cyndy Floyd lost her District 5 seat on the Pompano City Commission to Barry Moss.

Southwest Ranches Council Member at-large:

Southwest Ranches Council Member Bob Hartmann successfully held off challenger Carlos Hernandez.

Sunrise City Commissioner Seat D:

Sunrise Deputy Mayor Jacqueline A. Guzman defeated challenger Niccole Pazos for Seat D on the city commission.

Tamarac City Commission District 2:

Morey Wright defeated four opponents to represent District 2 on the Tamarac City Commission. The seat is currently held by Vice Mayor Mike Gelin, who ran unsuccessfully against incumbent Mayor Michelle J. Gomez.

Tamarac City Commission District 4:

Kicia Daniel won the race against opponents Carol Mendelson and David. W. Mountford for Tamarac City Commission District 4.

West Park City Commission Seat 1:

Katrina V. Touchstone defeated Tangi Lunett Bates for West Park City Commission Seat 1.

West Park City Commission Seat 2:

Incumbent Brandon Smith successfully defended his Seat 2 on the West Park City Commission against challenger Cristina Eveillard.

Weston City Commission Seat 3:

Incumbent Byron L. Jaffe defeated challengers Didi Reyes-Greenstein and Patricia C. Bernandini for Seat 3 of the Weston City Commission.

Weston City Commission Seat 4:

Incumbent Mary Molina-Macfie successfully defended her Seat 4 on the Weston City Commission against Alfredo Ortega.

Wilton City Commissioner at-large:

Wilton Vice Mayor Paul Rolli defeated challengers Ron D’Arminio and Roy David Walker for his at-large seat on the City Commission.
