Brooke Burke Explains What She Meant Regarding Her Derek Hough 'Affair' Comment

Derek Hough and Brooke Burke

Brooke Burke is doing a little bit of damage control after making some controversial comments about her former dance partner, Derek Hough.

In case you missed it, the TV personality—who was paired up with Hough for her run on Dancing With the Stars back in 2008—recently caught some backlash after admitting that she would've had a "love affair" with the pro dancer if she wasn't in a serious relationship at the time.

Users online quickly called her out for even considering the possibility of cheating on her now ex-husband David Charvet, whom she married in 2011. But now, Burke is clarifying that she never would've actually acted on her "crush" on Hough.

Instead, Burke insisted that she had "very clear boundaries," and that Charvet, 51, totally "understood" the close-knit relationship that develops between dance partners.

"David went to every show and sometimes to rehearsals and he loved the artistry of dance and he understood it," she told E! News of Charvet, whom she later split from in 2018. "He understood the rhythm and to compliment him, he also the need for that intimate relationship and he was super supportive."

While addressing her feelings toward Hough, Burke clarified, "There's a big difference between sensual connection and a sexual connection."

"For me, our time in the ballroom, there was so much chemistry," she explained. "It was romantic, it was challenge, it was struggle, it was triumph, it was fear. It was all these things that a couple goes through."

Burke and Hough's chemistry ended up bringing them to the top, as they ended up taking home the Mirrorball Trophy at the end Season 7.

"You're learning something new, you're facing your fear, you're being judged, you're learning how to communicate, you're learning how to find your rhythm together as a couple." she continued of their journey together as dance partners, adding, "So, for me, that was very intimate and at times, very romantic, especially during performances like the Rumba and just the romance of storytelling through our bodies."

"That's what I meant," she asserted, seemingly putting an end to the affair chatter once and for all.
