BRONSON — The 66 graduates of the 137th class of Bronson Junior/Senior High School crossed the stage in the school gym Thursday night to receive diplomas from the board of education members.

The event was also the last for principal Kristina Crabill, who came out of retirement to serve her alma mater for a year following John Herbert's resignation.

The retiring principal reflected on what she knew students learned. "You will never know what you are capable of until you try."

Crabill urged her graduates to make the right choice between "What is right and what is easy."

Crabill said graduates with Bronson education would serve them well, "When you look in the mirror, you will be able to see the reflection of a person who has knowledge of all of the facts, who is morally and ethically sound, and who is willing to stand strong when things get tough."

Valedictorian Hannah Erwin said her inspiration came from fellow students and their classroom achievements, sports, and extracurricular activities. "You're an example of how to actively work towards your future and attain your goals."

Erwin also took inspiration from the five international exchange students who came to the small rural town and received diplomas. "It can be frightening leaving behind your comfort zone to enter the unknown. But your courage reminds me to lead boldly and without fear."

Salutatorian Isabella Cranson pointed out that many of the class spent 13 years together in school, while others moved to Bronson. "We all have overcome countless obstacles and embraced numerous challenges. No matter how we got to this moment, our experiences have shaped the class of 2024." All this came with the support of parents, school staff, and the community.

Of the graduates, 31 will attend a community college or a four-year university. Two will go into vocational training programs. This class received $230,525 in scholarships to go toward their post-secondary education. One will join the military.
