A few highlights coming to IU Auditorium's stage

"Les Miserables" returns to Bloomington in September. It is British theater producer Cameron Mackintosh's production of Alain Boublil's and Claude-Michel Schonberg’s Tony Award-winning musical about justice, wealth inequalities and social economics.

The staging has been called “Les Mis for the 21st Century” (Huffington Post), “a reborn dream of a production” (Daily Telegraph) and “one of the greatest musicals ever created” (Chicago Tribune).

Dr. Seuss’ "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is coming to IU Auditorium in November 2024.
Dr. Seuss’ "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is coming to IU Auditorium in November 2024.

Dr. Seuss’ "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" (November) includes hit songs “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch” and “Welcome Christmas.” Max the Dog narrates as the Grinch, with a too-small heart, tries to steal Christmas from the "Whos." The New York Times said it's “100 times better than any bedtime story!”

Tony Bennett's good friend and international star Michael Feinstein sings in "Because of You: My Tribute to Tony Bennett" (November). Audiences will hear songs such as “Because of You,” “Rags to Riches,” “I Left My Heart in San Francisco,” “The Best is Yet to Come,” “I Get a Kick Out of You” and “Stranger in Paradise.” Feinstein and the Carnegie Hall Ensemble will pay tribute to Bennett.

"Hadestown" (February) shows that a song can change what happens to you. It won eight 2019 Tony Awards including Best Musical and the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. In this Bloomington debut, "Hadestown" brings together two tales — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice and that of King Hades and his wife, Persephone.

"Dear Evan Hansen" is coming to IU Auditorium in April 2025.
"Dear Evan Hansen" is coming to IU Auditorium in April 2025.

The Washington Post said "Dear Evan Hansen" (April) is “one of the most remarkable shows in musical theater history."

Evan Hansen is a high school student who suffers from looking in from the outside. "Is anybody waving back at me?" he sings. He finally gets the chance to be included, and what happens next reflects how people find the people they need. It features some iconic musical theater songs from the last decade, such as “You Will Be Found” and “Waving Through A Window.”

The score is by the Tony-, Grammy-, and Oscar-winning team behind "The Greatest Showman" and "La La Land," Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, with a book by Tony Award-winner Steven Levenson.
