A little more than a year after American basketball star Brittney Griner was released from a Russian prison, Brittney and wife Cherelle Griner are sharing some exciting news.

On April 14, Brittney and Cherelle took to Instagram to share a joint statement and a happy one at that. Brittney and Cherelle will be parents in just three months time.

“Can’t believe we’re less than three months away from meeting our favorite human being,” the couple wrote alongside the hashtags, “Baby Griner coming soon. July 2024.”

The exciting announcement was paired with a photo of Brittney and Cherelle’s growing baby bump holding hands with a series of sonogram pictures close by.

Many of their famous friends commented their congratulatory messages in the comments section.

This news comes 16 months after Griner was reunited with Cherelle and family after being detained in a Russian prison for 10 months. Brittney Griner was arrested after hash oil was discovered in the luggage Brittney was traveling through a Russian airport with.

“It feels so good to be home! The last 10 months have been a battle at every turn. I dug deep to keep my faith and it was the love from so many of you that helped keep me going. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone for your help,” Brittney said in a statement after being released.

Griner took a break from basketball after being released to focus on mental health.

“The Mercury fully support Brittney and we will continue to work together on a timeline for her return,” the team said in a 2023 statement, according to ESPN.
