British Open betting: Rory McIlroy is the favorite ahead of the 150th tournament

Rory McIlroy is the favorite to win the 150th British Open.

McIlroy is searching for his second British Open title and first since 2014. He won the 2014 Open at Royal Liverpool by two shots over Rickie Fowler and Sergio Garcia.

McIlroy, one of the few top golfers to skip the Scottish Open, enters the Open at +1000 to win ahead of Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm. The Scottish Open, won by Xander Schauffele on Sunday, featured nine of the top 10 golfers in the Official World Golf Rankings. World No. 2 McIlroy was the only golfer who didn’t play.

That may not be the worst thing in the world. Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa and Viktor Hovland all missed the cut at the Scottish Open. World No. 4 Patrick Cantlay finished in a tie for fourth while No. 6 Cam Smith and No. 10 Matt Fitzpatrick tied for 10th.

Schauffele is fifth in the world rankings and is at +1600 to win the British Open to score his first major title. He’s tied for fourth best odds on the board with Jordan Spieth, Thomas and Fitzpatrick. Scheffler is at +1200 while Rahm is at +1400.

Morikawa is the defending British Open champion and sits at +2000 to win the tournament. Will Zalatoris has been oh-so-close to winning the last two majors and he’s at +2200 ahead of Smith and Cantlay at +2500. 2019 British Open winner Shane Lowry is also at +2500.

Where LIV golfers are

Dustin Johnson is the top LIV Tour golfer on the board at +2800. Brooks Koepka is No. 2 among LIV golfers at +3300 while Louis Oosthuizen is at +4000 ahead of Bryson DeChambeau at +5000.

Oosthuizen has the same odds as Tiger Woods, Joaquin Niemann and Sungjae Im. Woods is going to be a favorite of bettors entering the tournament as he chases his third Open title at St. Andrews and bettors wager their money for sentimental reasons.
